Liverpool prepared to block unwanted star deal amid Everton links

Liverpool are not keen on the idea of letting Christian Benteke leave the club on loan this summer amid interest from bitter rivals Everton, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

The Belgian is seemingly surplus to requirements at Anfield after just one season on Merseyside, with Jurgen Klopp not a big fan of the ex-Aston Villa ace.

Indeed, the German is willing to let him move on for £30m – just shy of the £32.5m paid for him 12 months ago – but reports claim that a loan deal is not an option he’s keen on.

Interest in the big forward is widespread, with Sunderland and, interestingly, Everton having emerged as suitors of late.

Benteke boasts an impressive goalscoring record through his time in English football, but he’s firmly behind Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino in Klopp’s striker pecking order.

If a permanent deal cannot be agreed, the Kop chief is willing to keep the 25-year-old for the 2016/17 campaign.
