Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the club will maintain their firm stance that Luis Suarez is not for sale, as rumours circulate that Real Madrid are plotting a fresh move for the striker, according to reports from The Guardian.
The controversial Uruguayan has been on the La Liga side’s radar for much of the summer, although no official move has yet been made for his signature.
Suarez himself has confessed that he would be open to a switch away from Anfield, but reports suggest that he has since apologised to the club and is set to stay until at least January.
But, some speculation hints that Real are prepared to make a late offer for the South American – a move they could fund by selling Karim Benzema to Arsenal.
However, Rodgers says that Suarez will not be sold at this late stage.
“I’m sure there will be plenty of activity in these last number of days. It is what it is and we will deal with it like we have during the summer,” he said.
“It’s very difficult at this time (for a Suarez bid to succeed). We are trying to get one or two more quality players in through the door. If we lose Luis at this stage it would be difficult to replace him.
“There might have been a point a few months ago where there was time to do it but with 11 days to go it would be difficult to replace him.”
Arsenal have seen two approaches for Suarez knocked back by Liverpool this summer – including the infamous £40m plus £1 offer.
