Liverpool prepared to wait for major target deal

Liverpool are confident of tying up a deal for Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne this summer, but are willing to be patient as negotiations drag on, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Reds tabled a £10m opening offer a few weeks ago, but the approach was swiftly knocked back by the Saints – who sold Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren to the Anfield giants a year ago.

Liverpool have subsequently been linked with a fresh offer for the England international, however, an agreement is yet to be reached between the two clubs, even though the player is eager to make the switch.

Although Clyne appears to be the prime candidate to replace Glen Johnson on Merseyside, reports suggest that Brendan Rodgers’ side will not be rushed into a deal, perhaps, with paying over the odds for a player about to enter the last 12 months of his contract on their minds.

Rodgers has right-backs in the shape of Jon Flanagan and Javi Manquillo to choose from, but with the former having missed all of 2014/15 through injury and the latter struggling to make an impact in the first year of his loan spell he could well be keen on an addition to bolster his options.
