Liverpool are preparing a bid for 26-year-old Serbian defender Neven Subotic from Borussia Dortmund, as reported by The Mirror.
Subotic was one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players during the latter’s time as Dortmund manager, and the Serbian defender has been linked with Liverpool since Klopp took over at Anfield.
German football expert Rafa Honigstein has said that Subotic could well be ready to make the move, although Borussia Dortmund’s chairman has reportedly insisted that he does not expect any of his players to be targeted for Liverpool by their old boss.
Subotic, who has been with Dortmund for more than seven years, has been a regular with the Yellow Submarines for most of that time, and has played for Serbia 36 times since 2009.
The defender has won the Bundesliga twice in 2011 and 2012, both under the leadership of Klopp.
It remains to be seen whether Subotic is targeted in January by Klopp, or whether the Anfield hierarchy decide to wait for next summer before making their move.
