Liverpool ready to axe midfield star

Liverpool are considering offloading midfielder Lucas Leiva, with Inter Milan ready to offer £7m for his signature, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Brazil international has recently forced his way back into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans after a period in exile due to the form of Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson last season.

In a bid to cure his side’s defensive woes, the Northern Irishman has been fielding the South American enforcer, whose unfashionable, yet effective, style has helped to improve the Reds’ showings.

Lucas was on the verge of leaving Anfield over the summer to join Inter or Napoli, and now the former are firmly back in the hunt for the 28-year-old.

Although a sale could leave the club short in midfield, Joe Allen is out injured, the funds from his salary might be put into boosting the chances of tying Raheem Sterling down to a new deal.

Lucas has hinted that he’s ready for a new challenge, which Inter can offer him as they plot to re-establish themselves as a genuine force in Serie A.
