The 26-year-old undoubtedly contributed to the Magpies’ demise last season, making 37 Premier League appearances and notching up seven assists as they plummeted out of the top flight.
But the France international’s stock consistently soared during Euro 2016 and most particularly after a dominant performance in the final against Portugal, with a number of clubs reportedly keen to bring him back to the Premier League.
Indeed, The Guardian reported last week that Everton are prepared to meet Newcastle’s £35million valuation of Sissoko, alongside Serie A giants Juventus.
But the latest reports from Le10Sport put two different clubs in the frame – Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund and the Toffees’ local rivals, Liverpool.
According to the French publication, although neither club have agreed a fee with Newcastle, they’ve both made direct approaches to discuss personal terms with Sissoko.
Sissoko has made no secret of his desire to leave the Championship club this summer, recently telling reporters; “My priority is to stay in England even if I’m not against going to search for a new challenge elsewhere. I particularly want to play with big players and in top-level matches.”
