The Porto ace has emerged as one of the Reds’ top targets for the upcoming winter window amid speculation that Brendan Rodgers is worried about his misfiring frontline.
The Merseysiders are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table after 11 games, with Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert – both summer signings – having struggled in the absence of long-term injury hit striker Daniel Sturridge and departed hero Luis Suarez.
Martinez has been on Arsenal and Chelsea’s radars for some time, but now reports claim that Liverpool are eager to push through a £30m deal, and that they’re confident of doing so.
The South American hit-man – who has averaged better than a goal every other game since his 2011 move to Porto from Chiapas in Mexico – is seen as one of European football’s best forwards, and has been lauded for his mix of physicality and technique.
Martinez has already talked up the possibility of leaving Portugal, but he highlighted a deal at the end of the current season.
However Rodgers is keen to push a winter offer as he plots to keep his side in the battle for a top four finish.
