Liverpool ready to up interest in Ajax star

Premier League target Christian EriksenLiverpool are set to increase their interest in Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, after scouts from the club watched him during the international break, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Reds are just one of a host of Premier League sides interested in the Danish star, who has been earning rave reviews for his Eredivisie displays for some time.

It’s believed that manager Brendan Rodgers has made the 21-year-old his top target ahead of the summer, and sees him as the ideal man to add more creativity to his attacking ranks.

Eriksen has recently snubbed Ajax’s offer of a new contract, and looks set to move on this summer with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Due to these circumstances he will be available for a reduced fee, with the Dutch side wary of losing him for free in 2014.

Liverpool are aware that they face a real battle to secure his signature, but they possess two trump cards in Daniel Agger and Luis Suarez.

Eriksen plays alongside Agger in the Danish national team, with the centre-back, and captain, a respected member of the squad.

He was also a part of the Ajax set-up during Suarez’s time in Amsterdam, and the pair are believed to have a strong relationship.

Another factor that may come into play is Eriksen’s affinity with Liverpool, a team the youngster is said to have a soft spot for.
