Liverpool readying January move for star playmaker

Liverpool are leading the race for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik, according to reports from Fichajes.

The Slovakian playmaker has been heavily linked with a January move away from Naples, amid speculation that the club are plotting a major overhaul.

Hamsik has been one of their key performers for some time, but he could be sacrificed – alongside manager Rafael Benitez.

Hamsik has been on the radars of Manchester United and Chelsea, but now it’s understood that Liverpool are in pole position.

Despite having drafted in a number of top stars over the summer, Brendan Rodgers is keen to get more names on board after watching his side make a stuttering start to the season.

The 27-year-old is seen as one of the best creative midfielders in Italian football, and has been tipped to develop into a genuine star for a few years.

He also possesses a good eye for goal, and could be used as a long-term successor to Steven Gerrard.

Hamsik plays alongside Martin Skrtel at international level, which may be a trump card for the Anfield club.
