Liverpool are alongside Premier League rivals Arsenal in the hunt for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, according to Calcio Mercato.

What's the word?

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have impressed so far in the Premier League, avoiding defeat in each of their opening eight matches to sit joint-top of the standings alongside Chelsea and Manchester City - with a huge title fight on the cards.

The Reds have shown their financial strength in recent windows with the signings of Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson, with reports from Calcio Mercato suggesting they could splash the cash once again the snatch Piotr Zielinski from Napoli.

Zielinski, regularly linked with Arsenal, has a whopping £57.1m release clause in his contract but the Italian side are looking to secure the Poland international to an extension which could lead that figure to double.

A good signing?

With Adam Lallana and James Milner in their 30's, suggesting their time at Anfield could come to a close, it is not surprising to see Liverpool in the hunt for further midfield additions. However, the club have splashed plenty of cash in this area in the past year.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho and Naby Keita have all moved to Merseyside during the past 18 months and it is not entirely clear where Zielinski would fit into the side - particularly as his expensive fee suggests he would demand being one of the first names on the teamsheet.

At 24, Zielinski has plenty of time to develop into an incredible asset for the Reds but his arrival could be detrimental to the aforementioned trio that Klopp has recently brought to the club and would raise questions about Liverpool's long-term transfer strategy.
