Liverpool rule out move for French star

PSG defender Mamadou Sakho

Liverpool have ruled out a move for PSG defender Mamadou Sakho, reports The Liverpool Echo.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to improve his defence this summer, after legendary centre-back Jamie Carragher retired at the end of last season.

But the club have ruled out a move for Ligue 1 centre-back Mamdou Sakho. The 23-year-old, who won Ligue 1 with PSG last season, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, and to Anfield.

The French defender has spoken out amidst rumours linking with him to Liverpool, and didn’t shut the door on a move to Merseyside.

“I’ll be able to talk with the new coach and see what he thinks,” Sakho said.

“I am flattered by the interest of historic clubs like Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future.”

But the Reds have cooled their interest in Sakho, as well as Swansea captain Ashley Williams. The duo will not be joining Kolo Toure, who signed his contract with the Reds today after being made a free agent at the end of last season.

Hopes of landing Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos have also appeared to have faded, with the Reds struggling to meet the German club’s valuation of the Greek centre-half.

Are the Reds right to ignore Sakho? Who should they sign this summer?
