Liverpool set transfer sights on relegation battle hero

Liverpool are in the running to sign Newcastle’s midfield star Moussa Sissoko, according to reports from The Express.

The 25-year-old played a key role as the Magpies evaded relegation on the final day of the season just gone, with his headed goal against West Ham followed up by a Jonas Gutierrez strike.

And it appears that his performances in the black and white shirt have alerted Liverpool, with reports claiming Brendan Rodgers’ side are tracking the £17m-rated star.

Sissoko is unlike many of Liverpool’s current midfield options, with his game based more on power than subtlety.

He could provide the physicality the Merseysiders may lose via the exit of captain Steven Gerrard, who will start his career with LA Galaxy soon.

Sissoko has been a Newcastle player since January 2013 and has impressed in the engine room at St James’ Park.

Although a central player, he can operate on either flank and been used as a ‘No.10’.
