Liverpool should try to test Chelsea's resolve by launching a bid for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

What's the word?

Loris Karius is not the most popular within the Anfield faithful, and he did not help his reputation on Tuesday night during a pre-season friendly against Tranmere.

The German goalkeeper spilled what should have been a comfortable to save and conceded a goal in the Reds' 3-2 win.

It was the first notable mistake made by Karius since his two howlers in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in May.

Following the 3-1 defeat in Kiev, rumours were rife that Liverpool were looking for a new shot-stopper, but nothing has come from the speculation.

Should the Reds' take a risk?

It is highly unlikely that Chelsea would be willing to sell such a key player to their rivals, but Liverpool should try to lure Courtois to Anfield.

The 6ft 6in tall Belgium international, who has won four league titles in his career so far, came under fire from some Chelsea fans last season.

There have always been rumblings that the 26-year-old would eventually join Real Madrid, but so far he has stayed committed to the Blues.

If Courtois made the jump to Liverpool, it would certainly give the Merseyside outfit much more credibility as far as their goalkeeping situation is concerned.

Karius has been roundly mocked by rival supporters, but with Courtois in between the sticks, the Reds would move up another level and potentially be the key to them finally winning the Premier League title.

The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, and if he opts not to pen fresh terms, it would make sense for Chelsea to sell now rather than wait until the end of his deal as he will then be a free agent.

It may be a long shot from Liverpool's point of view, but it is worth a try.
