Liverpool should definitely be in the market for a new forward to provide consistent competition for Roberto Firmino, and should set their sights on their former striker Iago Aspas to solve their woes.

What's the word, then?

Well, behind the aforementioned Firmino, the Reds have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke and youngster Rhian Brewster to provide back-up. However, there is a difference between just having names on the teamsheet to look like there is back-up, and having hungry players determined to win a place.

In Sturridge, Jurgen Klopp has a player who always seem to pick up an injury just when he gets going, and whilst he is an exquisitely natural goalscorer, you just can't place your faith in him without being let down somewhere along the way.

With Origi, there is a player whose future looks bleak on Merseyside - the Belgian international has played just 11 minutes so far this season.

In terms of Solanke and Brewster, the two youngsters are merely biding their time at Anfield at the moment, and the general feeling around the place is that Klopp has high hopes for the pair in the future.

What can be done for now though?

For now, the German boss needs a player who is going to be breathing down his number 9's neck. In former Red Aspas, there is a forward who has been given a new lease of life since leaving Anfield for Sevilla.

The Spanish international has since scored 88 club goals in La Liga, emerging as one of the most feared strikers in Spain.

At 31 years of age, he wouldn't necessarily break the bank as such, seeing as his stock will only go down from here. As a result, Liverpool could potentially strike a deal with Celta and send one of their younger forwards over on loan in exchange for a short-term fix to their striking depth - in doing so, it could provide the kick that their title challenge may need in January.
