Liverpool are one go a handful of clubs monitoring Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos ahead of a potential move, according to Record.
Vlachodimos has certainly caught the eye since his move to Benfica from Panathinaikos last summer.
The 24-year-old has secured the number one spot and has helped the team move to the top of the league table by keeping three clean sheets.
According to Record, a handful of clubs, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Liverpool are tracking Vlachodimos’s progress.
If any suitor wants to get a deal over the line they are likely going to have to pay a £54m release clause.
There is no doubt that Vlachodimos is talented, but it would make very little sense for the Reds to spend big on a new goalkeeper.
Jurgen Klopp recruited Alisson from Roma in the summer for a hefty fee, and he has become an instant hit in between the sticks.
With Loris Karius out on loan and Simon Mignolet’s long-term future at Anfield seeming uncertain, Liverpool may need to eventually dip into the market for a new back-up.
However, spending £54m on a keeper who would be second string would be foolish business from the Reds, and it would hint that they are in danger of slipping back into their former ways when their transfer dealings perhaps weren’t as smart as they are right now.
