Liverpool star may follow former teammate out the door

Martin Skrtel

Martin Skrtel is ready to follow in Pepe Reina’s footsteps and leave Anfield outfit Liverpool to re-join with ex-manager Rafa Benitez at Napoli, according to the Daily Star.

It has been stated the deal is in an advanced stage and therefore a move can be expected in the not too distant future.

If the 28-year-old does complete the deal, he will join up with fellow countryman Marek Hamsik, which is being touted as a key factor behind the wish to move to Italy, as Skrtel is thought to be excited to play alongside his Slovakian teammate.

Pepe Reina’s loan move was on less amicable grounds, however the £12million valued centre back is still set to make a permanent move.

Benitez brought Skrtel to Anfield from Zenit St Petersberg in 2008 for £6.5million, and Liverpool are aware the Spaniard has plenty of money to spend.

Edinson Cavani left the club earlier this summer for Paris Saint Germain for £55million, and thus are able to increase the value on the Slovakian’s head.
