Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has revealed he played an instrumental role in helping the club land £29m midfielder Roberto Firmino, according to the Daily Star.
The former Hoffenheim man arrived in the summer after links with a host of top European clubs, becoming the third most expensive signing in the Reds’ history.
Now, Coutinho has disclosed the behind the scenes details that saw his compatriot arrive at Anfield, under then manager Brendan Rodgers.
‘’I was in the national team with him and I told him: ‘You have to join’’’, said the Brazilian international.
The 24-year old has suffered with injuries and a lack of form since arriving on these shores, and has been unable to replicate the stellar showings that prompted the Merseyside giants to shell out such a large fee for him so far.
However, Coutinho heaped praise on his teammate, as the new man finds his feet in the Premier League.
‘The truth is, he’s a great player’, he said, ‘I am happy to be playing alongside these good players.’
