Liverpool star Salah described as player of the season so far

Liverpool are coming to terms with the departure of Philippe Coutinho, who ended his five-year spell at Anfield to join Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will play their first game on Sunday since Coutinho’s exit, and the opponent does not come much tougher.

Manchester City will be the visitors to Merseyside as Liverpool try to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Pep Guardiola’s side.

One man who will now be looked upon by Liverpool fans as their hero is Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian international did not arrive at Anfield from Roma in the summer with much expectation given that he failed at Chelsea during a two-year stint.

Doubters were proved wrong, though, as the attacker has scored 23 goals in all competitions.

At the moment, Salah is only one goal behind current Premier League top scorer Harry Kane as he has netted 17 times in the top flight so far this season.

Former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier has picked out the Egyptian as being one of the best in the division.

The pundit wrote in his Sky Sports column:

“I don’t think you could have asked for anything more and he’s exceeded everybody’s expectations. I’d put him up there for player of the season so far with 17 goals to his name already, although he has missed a few easy chances.”
