Liverpool star set for summer departure

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel

Martin Skrtel could be making his way out of Anfield at the end of the season after questioning Brendan Rodgers’ reasons for leaving him out of the starting line up, the Daily Mail says.

The Reds manager has not used Skrtel as a started in the Premier League since the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on mid January, and criticised the Slovakian after the FA Cup fiasco against Oldham.

The 26 year-old, currently sidelined with a knee injury, believes he would not be in Rodgers plans even if he was in conditions to play.

“The coach has his ideas about the line-up and the question is if I would be in it if I was fit. I would say it’s likelier I wouldn’t”, Skrtel said to Denik Sport.

When asked if his absence in recent games was explained to him, the centre-back showed himself reluctant to believe Rodgers explanations.

“He [Rodgers] told me something on this, gave me some explanation, but it’s hard to tell if it was the true reason he gave me”.

And he added: “I don’t think it was and I think there is something else behind it. Anyway, I’m not the type of player who would be chasing the coach and be in his office all the time, asking for explanations why I’m not playing“.

Skrtel statements, together with recent reports of Liverpool scanning the market in search of two centre-backs towards the next season, invite to think the Slovakian is paving his way for a summer departure from Anfield.
