The Uruguayan attacker was the Reds’ talisman last year, scoring 23 Premier League goals from a central position.
But, Brendan Rodgers is ready to push him onto the wing upon his return with Daniel Sturridge currently in razor-sharp form.
The January signing has started the season impeccably, netting all of Liverpool’s league goals in their opening three wins against Stoke, Aston Villa and Manchester United, as well as two in a Capital One Cup victory over Notts County.
This has convinced Rodgers to hand him the role on a permanent basis.
Suarez is expected to operate from the left or right flank when he returns in two games’ time, with Philippe Coutinho likely to be played in the ‘number 10’ role.
The South American was effective in a similar position for former club Ajax, but it remains unclear as to whether he will be happy to no longer be the focal point of the Merseysiders’ attack.
Suarez made little secret of his desire to leave Anfield over the summer and it’s uncertain as to what impact a positional change may have on his future.
Does Daniel Sturridge deserve the position? And what does it mean for Luis Suarez’s future?
