Liverpool target eyeing new deal to force move

Eduardo Salvio is eager to sign a new contract with Benfica, but only in order to lower his release clause in the hope of joining Liverpool this summer, according to reports from The Express.

The 24-year-old has recently emerged as summer target for the Reds following his impressive performances for the Portuguese champions.

However, his £40m release clause is believed to be a factor against a deal going through.

Salvio is keen for a transfer though, and wants to negotiate a new deal with the Lisbon giants, but with a lower fee to trigger his exit inserted.

A figure that’s more in line with his true worth may lure Liverpool in, with Brendan Rodgers likely to look to land new players this summer.

Salvio has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances for Benfica this season and featured in five of their six Champions League games.
