Liverpool target Fernandes could transform Reds’ midfield

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Liverpool are chasing a summer swoop for Sporting CP playmaker Bruno Fernandes.

What’s the story?

The report from O Jogo claims Liverpool have already met with Fernandes’ representatives, and are planning a huge bid to bring the breakout star to the Premier League.

Fernandes has enjoyed an incredible season with Sporting, and Liverpool have “regularly” sent scouts to watch the 23 year-old in action.

The creative midfielder has a €100m release clause, but the Reds are hopeful of securing a deal for much less.

Is he worth the money?

Fernandes only moved to Lisbon last summer, but has been nothing short of sensational this season, grabbing 13 goals and ten assists in all competitions.

The 23 year-old, valued at £15.3million by Transfermarkt, has usually been deployed in centre midfield, but can play further forward as a second striker or number ten.

While there’s no question Liverpool have one of the most feared attacks in the world, Fernandes could certainly offer something extra that the Reds don’t currently have.

His superb control and technical ability will help Jürgen Klopp’s side dictate games at whatever pace they like, and his set piece wizardry and delightful passing would create even more chances for their incredible front three.

The Reds are of course awaiting the imminent arrival of Naby Keita, but that doesn’t mean Fernandes couldn’t join as well. With Emre Can likely on his way out and Adam Lallana struggling for playing time, Fernandes and Keita could completely revamp Liverpool’s midfield.
