According to German media outlet Sport1, Liverpool are one of a number of major European clubs interested in Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz, who would become a true Anfield star for a few reasons.

What's the word, then?

Well, Sport1 report that Bayern Munich are keen on the impressive 20-year-old, although they face plenty of competition if they want to sign the Germany international from their Bundesliga rivals.

Sport1 report that as well as them, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all keen.

He certainly wouldn't come on the cheap, with the same story saying that Leverkusen would expect to recoup €100m (£91.5m) if they did lose him.

Why would he be an Anfield star?

Liverpool simply haven't replaced Philippe Coutinho with a new No.10 capable of scoring goals and assists, and it is something they are arguably missing right now despite the great success they have had in recent times.

While a midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner – who started against Chelsea in the Super Cup – for example provides some great defensive cover and work rate, none of those aforementioned players are particularly helpful in the final third on a regular basis for the Reds.

If Havertz arrives at Anfield the signs are that he would make a difference in the most advanced position in the middle of the park, and in turn it would avoid the use of a combination of players that has previously been described as a "Brexit midfield" by many supporters on Twitter.

He only turned 20 years of age in June, but he already has 30 goals and 22 assists to his name in 107 appearances in all competitions for Bayer, as per Transfermarkt, including two goals in two outings so far this term and 20 in 42 in 2018/19.

The youngster clearly has an eye for a goal and an assist, and given the great potential he looks to have given his record to date, he would surely be loved at Anfield because of the new dimension he would bring in an area that is lacking in some ways right now.
