The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League side, who look to have beaten Juventus and PSG to his signing.
Mkhitaryan is expected to fly to Liverpool today to undergo a medical at Melwood, the club’s training ground. Rodgers will then be able to officially complete the deal later in the week.
The Northern Irish manager was only given a £20million transfer kitty this summer, and after offering £7million for Iago Aspas, the Reds boss will hope to complete the £15million sale of Andy Carroll soon, to cover the cost of Mkhitaryan.
Carroll is due for a medical at Upton Park this week, as his departure from Anfield is close to becoming permanent.
Rodgers will immediately use some of the money from the English striker’s sale to fund his move for the Shakhtar midfielder, who scored 25 league goals this season.
The 24-year-old Armenian international also scored in the Champions League this year, bagging both the goals in Shakhtar’s 2-0 victory over FC Nordsjaelland in the group stage.
Mkhitaryan could rival Jordan Henderson for a place in the starting line-up, despite the English youngster having a strong season with the Reds.
Is Mkhitaryan the right man for Liverpool? Is he really worth £20million?
