Liverpool to hijack Arsenal’s move for Serie A sensation

Liverpool are plotting a move to beat rivals Arsenal to the signature of highly-rated Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer, according to reports from The Metro.

The Croatia international – who represented his nation at last year’s World Cup – is considered to be one of Serie A’s best young playmakers and has been earning praise in Italian football for some time.

Arsenal have been aligned with the 20-year-old of late amid suggestions that Arsene Wenger sees him as a good off-season addition, but now Liverpool are also in the running.

Inter are believed to be open to offloading the starlet as they plot to raise funds to bring in their own transfer targets, which may work in the Reds’ favour.

Kovacic himself is thought to be keen on a switch to Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to be shopping for a midfielder this summer, with club captain Steven Gerrard due to join LA Galaxy when his contract expires.
