Liverpool to revive transfer interest in Schalke ace

Shalke's Greek defenderLiverpool are set to reignite their interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Reds have been interested in the Greek ace for some time, but were believed to have been scared off by his injury woes.

A knee injury blighted the 21-year-old’s 2012/13 campaign, but it is thought that he has made a full recovery and is now back to peak physical condition.

This has alerted Brendan Rodgers, who sees Papadopoulos as an ideal long-term replacement for the retired Jamie Carragher.

The youngster is known for his vocal approach and never-say-die attitude, two characteristics that were associated with the Kop idol during his career-long spell at Anfield.

It is thought that Rodhers is willing to spend £12m to bring the rugged defender to Liverpool.

A move would throw Martin Skrtel’s Merseyside future into further doubt, with Napoli keep to swoop.

Former Liverpool chief Rafael Benitez – now in charge at the San Paolo – is known to be a big fan of the Slovakian, and could make a move.

Having sold Edinson Cavani for £54m, the Spaniard has plenty of cash to invest in his squad, and sees Skrtel as the ideal mad to strengthen his defensive options.

Liverpool fans, can Kyriakos Papadopoulos replace Jamie Carragher?
