Liverpool told to pay £15m for starlet

Derby Midfielder Will HughesDerby have told Liverpool to pay at least £15m for Will Hughes, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The Reds have been monitoring the Championship starlet for much of summer, and have been linked with a £6m move for his signature over the course of the past week.

But, Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of securing a deal for the 18-year-old have taken a hit, with the Rams having set their valuation for the teenager higher than expected.

Derby will also insist on the player being loaned back to them for a season.

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for talented youngsters, and have touted Hughes as a potential long-term replacement for club captain Steven Gerrard.

The England U-21 international is regarded as one of the finest talents outside of the top tier, and has become a key part of Derby’s first team despite his young age.

Rodgers has already missed out on a number of big name targets this summer, but he could be deterred by Hughes’ new asking price.

Liverpool are said to be keen to bring in at least one player who can immediately contribute to the first-team, which may be unrealistic if a £15m offer is submitted for the youngster.

Liverpool fans, do you really need Will Hughes? Or should the young talent already at Anfield be given the chance to impress?
