Liverpool looks to have been dealt a transfer blow with Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze in talks over a sensational return to Borussia Dortmund, Abendzeitung reports.
The 23-year-old was heavily tipped to be reunited with former boss Jurgen Klopp amid rumours he’s grown frustrated at his lack of game time with the Bundesliga giants.
Reports have indicated that he’s a major £20m target for Liverpool ahead of the summer, but the Germany international could now return to his previous club.
The attacking midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract with Bayern and is not expected to extend his stay given his current situation at the Allianz Arena.
Klopp is also being linked with a host of former stars such as Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski.
Gotze has only featured 18 times in all competitions for his side this term, so far scoring four goals while providing another three assists.
