Liverpool transfer boost… Major target eager for Anfield move

England international Nathaniel Clyne is desperate to leave Southampton for Liverpool this summer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Saints’ star right-back has emerged as a top target for the Reds of late, with speculation suggesting that Brendan Rodgers’ side are willing to up their offer for the defender after seeing an initial £10m bid knocked back.

With Glen Johnson set to officially leave the club on a free transfer in the coming weeks, the Merseysiders are short of cover on the right of their backline, and Clyne, who was a key part of the South Coast outfit’s impressive rearguard – only Champions Chelsea conceded fewer goals in the Premier League in 2014/15 – is thought to be the major target.

Despite the frosty relationship between Liverpool and Southampton – born from the triple move for Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren last year – the former Crystal Palace ace may make the switch, with the player reportedly eager to move on.

Clyne’s current contract expires in just over 12 months’ time.
