Liverpool transfer boost – Major target’s role under incoming manager far from clear

Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Mario Gotze, with incoming Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti unlikely to make him a key part of his plans, according to reports from TZ.

The Reds are thought to be on the cusp of a major summer of transfer activity, with Jurgen Klopp having been promised an ‘ambitious’ squad for his first full campaign, while the club’s recent financial results made for encouraging reading.

One man thought to be at the very top of the German’s wish-list is Gotze, and speculation has been fuelled by the player’s admission that he’s been “texting” his former Dortmund manager of late.

Now reports claim that Ancelotti – who will replace Pep Guardiola as Bayern’s manager this summer – is unlikely to put up much of a fight to keep the 23-year-old, who may decide to move on as he enters the last 12 months of his contract.

Although Dortmund are also thought to be keen, the playmaker is known to have a good relationship with Klopp, whom he broke through as a senior player under at the Westfalenstadion.
