There needs to be a serious change of stance from either Liverpool or Shakhtar Donetsk if Alex Teixeira’s much talked about move to Anfield is to go through before the close of the transfer window, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds have been heavily aligned with the prolific attacking midfielder over the course of the past week, with an opening bid of £24.5m having been rejected.
Given Teixeira’s form – he’s netted 22 goals in just 15 league matches this season – Shakhtar are keen to get as much money for his signature as possible, with a €50m (£38m) price-tag having been put on his head.
However, Liverpool are reluctant to go that high – it would break the club record fee paid for Andy Carroll in 2011 – and reports claim that unless one of the two clubs makes a serious compromise, a deal will not go ahead before Monday’s transfer deadline passes.
Teixeira has already indicated that he’s eager to join Liverpool in a video interview.
