Liverpool turn off Premier League duo and on to Ligue 1 striker

Liverpool are struggling to negotiate deals for Premier League strikers Romelu Lukaku and Wilfried Bony, reports the Express.

The Reds are looking to add to their strike force after agreeing to sell Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75millon. But their enquiries for Swansea forward Wilfried Bony and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku haven’t gone well, with Brendan Rodgers ready to move on.

Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette is the latest man to fall onto the Reds’ radar, after scoring 15 goals in Ligue 1 last season. The 23-year-old could be available for £16million, as the Rodgers builds a squad ready to play Champions League football. The most recent addition to Anfield was Lazar Markovic, who signed for £20million.

Lacazette had his first real break through season in terms of goals, after only scoring 3 times in the league during the 2012/13 campaign. But with Lukaku and Bony seemingly unavailable, the Frenchman could be testing his abilities in the Premier League should Rodgers follow through with his interest.

The striker didn’t enjoy playing against some of the bigger clubs in Europe last season though, failing to score in 4 Champions League appearances, and only netting twice in 8 Europa League fixtures.

But whilst some fans are calling for big names with a proven track record, Rodgers seems to be hunting for hungry players looking to make a name for themselves on the big stage.
