Liverpool ‘very close’ to landing big money strike solution

Liverpool are “very close” to sealing the arrival of Christian Benteke, according to talkSPORT’s Merseyside football expert, Graham Beecroft.

The Reds have been heavily aligned with Aston Villa’s Belgian ace in recent months, and reports of late have suggested that he is their main priority in terms of a striker addition this summer.

Although Liverpool have been reluctant to match his £32.5m release clause, they now close to completing a deal for the 24-year-old, according to Beecroft, who says that he expects the switch to be made official soon:

“My understanding is Christian Benteke, who has been on their radar for some time, is very close indeed to signing for Liverpool.” He told talkSPORT.

“I expect him to sign if not today then certainly in the not too distant future. Liverpool have done their work and have sealed a deal [with Aston Villa].”

The addition of Benteke after Nathaniel Clyne, who has now officially joined the North West side from Southampotn, would take Brendan Rodgers’ signings tally to seven already this summer, but Beecroft believes that the club will continue to push for additions, with Swedish left-back Ludwig Augustinsson also wanted:

“They are also interested in Ludwig Augustinsson, who played last night for Sweden Under-21s against Portugal,”

Liverpool have already snapped up Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings and James Milner on Bosman deals and have also signed Joe Gomez from Charlton and Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim.
