Liverpool want to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid this summer

According to Don Balon (via The Daily Star), Liverpool have made a £130million bid for Marco Asensio, who was crowned as the best under-21 player in world football by L’Equipe last year.

What’s the Story?

With hundreds of millions of pounds sitting in their transfer kitty following the departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona last month, Liverpool are reportedly looking to spend big in the summer…and Marco Asensio is the man they want to sign.

Reports in Spain claim that the Reds have already made a bid worth over £130million for the young Spaniard.

Last year, Asensio was voted the best player in world football under the age of 21 by French magazine L’Equipe; some feat considering the plethora of young talent in the European game today.

Would Asensio be a good signing for Liverpool?

Young, talented, fast, strong, intelligent and more. There is a reason why L’Equipe deemed Marco Asensio to be the best player in the world under 21-year’s old.

While Real Madrid’s season has been a disappointment to say the least, Asensio has been a bright spark amongst the dark clouds looming over the Bernabeu.

The Spaniard has featured 32 times in all competitions for Real this season, scoring seven goals and contributing three assists. Generally used as an impact substitution, Asensio has not looked out of place alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and others.

A perfect replacement for Philippe Coutinho and subsequently a perfect foil for Liverpool’s ferocious attacking talents, Asensio would be a phenomenal signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Unfortunately, Real Madrid’s inevitable squad re-haul and focus on homegrown talents mean that they will likely rebuff any bids for their youngster.
