Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is understood to be on hot on the trail of Manchester City defender Micah Richards, according to the Mirror.
Rodgers is setting his sights on the City star as he looks to bolster his side’s defensive options for next season with veteran Jamie Carragher heading for retirement at the end of the season.
Richards is thought to be the Reds manager’s number one target but he is likely to face competition for his signature with Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus also known to be keen on the England international.
Prizing the 24-year-old out of the Etihad Stadium won’t be easy though, as despite enduring an injury-ravaged campaign, the player is still seen as a key member of Roberto Mancini’s squad.
A fee in excess of £15m would be required for City to even contemplate selling the defender, who yesterday received a six-month ban from driving after failing to respond to two speeding notices sent to his home address.
