The Reds produced their best showing since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday as they beat the side many dubbed title favourites 4-1.
The fluid movement of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana proved too much for City, who found themselves 3-0 down within 32 minutes, and has been used a source of optimism at Anfield after a stuttering start to the campaign.
Conversely their next opponents, Swansea, have been struggling of late, with their good start to the season having been undone by a run of under-par performances that have seen Monk’s position at the Liberty Stadium called into question.
And writing in his Sky Sports Prediction column, Premier League pundit Merson backed Liverpool to make things even worse for the Swans:
“If they can start at a tempo like they did against City, they’ll be all over Swansea and rip them to shreds.
“They can’t let Swansea pass the ball about, but if they play anywhere near where they did last week, which was the performance of the week without doubt, they’ll steamroll them.”
