Liverpool announced the free signing for Manchester City midfielder James Milner this morning.
Subject to a medical, the England international will officially join the Anfield outfit on July 1 after Brendan Rodgers pipped Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to his signature.
City had reportedly offered Milner a contract renewal worth £165,000 to remain at the Etihad Stadium, but the 29-year-old has decided to move on after five years at the club.
And the Liverpool faithful are absolutely delighted with their club’s first summer signing.
Rodgers’ business this summer was always going to be under the spotlight after his side failed to finish in the top four despite spending over £100million on reinforcements last summer.
But he seems to have got himself off to a good start with the acquisition of Milner, who some fans believe is the ideal signing following Steven Gerrard’s departure.
Here’s how the Liverpool fans reacted to the news on Twitter this morning…
Brendan Rodgers said Do you want to sign for Liverpool? I said I'll think about it. Then I thought about it, then I said Yes. He said Great.

Can't work out if James Milner is a great signing on a free, or a repeat of Joe Cole signing on a free 5 years ago. #LFC

Milner to Liverpool is great business. Will surely get all the games he requires and will fit in well with Henderson.

My £864 is money well spent now that I can watch James Milner set Anfield alight every other week. If only Enrique was fit too. #lfc
