Liverpool’s Italian duo face uncertain future

The Daily Mirror reports that out-of-favour Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has four months to save his Reds career.

Although Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the Italian is not for sale during the current January transfer window, it is believed that he is more than ready to offload the controversial forward in the summer if his performances and goals return do not improve drastically during the remainder of the season.

Balotelli’s compatriot Fabio Borini is another Reds striker who is fighting for his future at the Anfield club. The 23 year-old – who spent last season on loan at Sunderland – made only his first Premier League start in four months last weekend against the Black Cats, yet is expected to return to the bench against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Italian duo have failed to score a single Premier League goal between them this campaign. Serie A leaders Juventus have been linked with a move for Balotelli, while Sunderland are reportedly still keen on bringing Borini back to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis.
