Jurgen Klopp will be once again happy with his team's work against RB Salzburg on Tuesday evening.

The Reds struggled a little in the first half, with the Austrian side managing six shots on target before the break at the Red Bull Arena, but after the interval, the Reds were in full control for most of the 45 minutes. Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah both got themselves on the scoresheet, and the Anfield outfit even managed to keep a clean sheet for just the fifth time this season.

On top of that, they topped the group. That means that they will now face one of the following teams in the first knockout round: Real Madrid, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon.

Whilst the former would be a difficult match, Klopp's men would fancy their chances against any of those sides. Atletico are not the same team as in recent seasons - they currently lie in sixth place in La Liga - whilst the others are unlikely to cause too much of a threat to the current holders

In the match against Salzburg, a draw would have been enough to see them through to the next round. However, the 52-year-old manager decided to send out a full strength side, and even went more attacking with the inclusion of Keita in the midfield. It was a decision that paid off, and it just goes to show how brave the former BVB boss is, as are his players.

As always, finishing top of the group often gives teams an advantage after the group stage, and the Merseyside team will now fancy their chances of reaching the quarter-finals - although you can bet your bottom dollar that they won't take their next opponents lightly.

Once again, Klopp did everything right. He refused to play safe, and stuck to his heavy-metal football philosophy. And it paid dividends, just like it has done on so many occasions already this season.

Meanwhile, one Liverpool star shows that perseverance pays off against RB Salzburg.
