Dejan Lovren has felt the wrath of Liverpool fans and the jibes from rival supporters during his time at Anfield, so it is safe to say that everyone was left baffled when he described himself as one of the world’s best defenders.
On Wednesday night after he helped Croatia earn a 2-1 victory over England in the semi-finals of the World Cup, the 29-year-old talked himself up to the media.
To be fair to the centre-back, he has vastly improved since Virgil van Dijk became his partner in defence at Liverpool in January, and he was part of the team that secured a top-four finish and reached the Champions League final.
However, Lovren is still susceptible to making costly errors, and during Croatia’s clash against the Three Lions, he was lucky to come away without a booking.
In all honesty, it would not have been a shock if the former Southampton man was sent off given the amount of fouls that he committed.

Lovren did, though, manage to keep Harry Kane at bay, and he has impressed for the duration of the tournament in Russia.
After the final whistle, it was clear that the Liverpool defender was feeling confident in his ability ahead of the final against France.

His words caused quite the stir on social media, and it is easy to see why.
No mate, salah took you to the final. You concede 3, he’d scored 4

He’s going to score an OG in the final now…

I can only remember him as the guy whose pants were pulled down by Harry Kane at Wembley last season. To save him further embarrassment Klopp subbed him off after 30 minutes.

I didn’t know just getting to finals was your goal. Win something & then you can talk

Sounds like a bit of arrogance if you ask me. Definitely not the attitude that #ENG had. Had no idea that he was the only one on the field.

Dejan was in the Liverpool team Salah and Mane took to the final of the Champions’ League and is in the team Modric took to the World Cup Final. He should recognise that he is not one of the best defenders in the world and not talk nonsense.
