According to Football Insider, Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Rhian Brewster on loan in January.
The 19-year-old asked Jurgen Klopp during the summer whether he could leave on a short-term basis, but the German turned his request down as he saw him as a member of the first-team squad.
He has previously been linked with Aston Villa and Leeds United, but now it appears one of Europe’s big boys would like to take him. Borussia Monchengladbach are also said to have their eyes on a deal.
From Brewster’s perspective, this is a switch that would make perfect sense. Having featured in just two matches this campaign – and indeed his career to date – he is in desperate need of regular football as soon as possible, and he is unlikely to get that at Liverpool, where Roberto Firmino is the first-choice centre-forward.
From a Liverpool perspective, a move to Dortmund could also be in their best interests. Paco Alcacer is perhaps Die Schwarzgelben’s best option up front, but he has struggled with injuries and so cannot be relied upon week-in week-out. In his place this term, the former Nice manager has used Julian Brandt, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus, none of whom are 100% comfortable in that role. As such, you could expect Brewster to get a good run of games.
Not only that, though, but the Reds could use his loan as part of any potential deal to take Jadon Sancho to Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s team have been heavily linked with the Merseyside club so far this campaign, with former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft even saying that they are the favourites to sign the England international, who BVB want £130m for. Should they offer Brewster, even on a temporary basis, as part of any deal for the winger, surely Hans-Joachim Watzke and co would be more inclined to move him on to the European champions rather than anywhere else.

In that case, it would be a win-win situation for everybody, and as such, if a choice were to be made between the two Bundesliga clubs, Dortmund is the clear and obvious winner.
