Liverpool’s transfer plans in doubt

Liverpool‘s move for ex-Barcelona goalkeeper and current free agent Victor Valdes rests in the hands of the Premier League authorities, according to reports from the Daily Star.

As the Spanish international is currently unattached, he is free to move to Anfield despite the transfer window being closed, but the Reds will need to seek the approval of the Premier League before they are allowed to register the player.

Any clubs looking to change their squad lists after the transfer window has shut need special dispensation, with the chiefs of the league deciding on a case-by-case basis if a player is cleared to join a club or not.

There also needs to be space in the club’s 25-man squad for the move to be finalised, although this should not pose any problems for Brendan Rodgers’ side as they only have 19 senior players registered.

Valdes continues to recover from a torn cruciate knee which he suffered in March whilst still at Barcelona and is unlikely to be match fit until next month, yet his signing would provide competition for Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, with many within the club worried that the Belgian international has become complacent due to the lack of a genuine rival.

It could be worse Nando, you could be one of these guys…
