Dejan Lovren had a decent summer as he reached the World Cup final with Croatia, but he is yet to play for Liverpool competitively this season.
The defender suffered a pelvic injury after returning to Anfield, and as a result, Joe Gomez has been playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form at the back and seems comfortable in a central role as opposed to right-back.
With Gomez at the heart of defence with Van Dijk, Liverpool have won all seven of their games so far.
This week presents a fresh challenge and Jurgen Klopp needs to manage his team properly as they are due to take on Chelsea twice in four days.
On Wednesday, the Reds will go head to head with the West London outfit in the third round of the EFL Cup at Anfield, and at the weekend they will travel to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League clash.
While speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, Klopp confirmed that Lovren is ready to play some part after coming through four training sessions unscathed.
Second-string goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will also start ahead of Alisson.

The Croatian has divided fans throughout his time at Liverpool, and now plenty have tweeted their thoughts on Lovren possibly returning to the lineup.

Because Gomez has had a few good games doesn’t make him better than Lovren. Now the games have begun. Chelsea twice n Man City n Napoli in less than a fortnight ain’t no joke. The weak will choke. Lovren is the real deal.

Lovren doesn’t train ‘normal’… He trains on a level far above anyone else. He is, after all, the world’s best defender.. 😉

Mignolet and Lovren could play again. Think its time to say goodbye to solid defensively. It was fun while it last. https://t.co/e4pvgGGtjT
