The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Liverpool's asking price for Dejan Lovren could come down to around £10m, and that he may seek to leave the club in the summer.

What's the story?

The report details what the Reds' future squad could look like, listing several players who may be on their way out in the summer, such as Nathaniel Clyne and Harry Wilson. This, it is said, is part of Jurgen Klopp's and Michael Edwards' plan for the future.

One of those who could be on the way out is Croatia international Lovren. The 30-year-old signed from Southampton for £20m in 2014, but he may want to leave this summer, and the Reds could be prepared to make a 50% loss on him.

Time to leave

The former Lyon man has been one of the few players to have been a part of Klopp's squad since the 52-year-old became manager in 2015. During his time there, he has made 183 appearances in all competitions, proving himself to be a loyal servant. He has also played his part in their successes, as well, playing three Champions League matches last term whilst also featuring eight times in the Premier League this time around.

He has also appeared in a World Cup final. He may not be the most beloved player amongst the Liverpool supporters - some have often lambasted him in the past - but he has played his role as the Reds have ascended to the top of European football.

However, it looks as though he will have reduced playing time in the future. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have formed a solid partnership at centre-back - they have kept eight clean sheets in their last nine Premier League fixtures - and, aged 23 and 28 respectively, time is still on their side. How Lovren will slot into the team is anyone's guess - he is likely to be forced into a bit-part role.

Given his confidence - he said he was one of the best defenders in the world in 2018 - he is unlikely to be happy with that. As such, him pushing for a move is not unfanciful. Even if Liverpool do move him on for around £10m, they will be happy to get some money for a player who is not a key starter. It is a situation in which everyone could be a winner.

Meanwhile, this Liverpool youngster could be Jordan Henderson' long-term successor at Anfield.
