All of the usual, household names were present at training as Liverpool prepared for their Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk are all set to start against Los Rojiblancos, and they were put through their paces in preparation. However, there was one name that will be perhaps unfamiliar to a lot of supporters, and that is Luis Longstaff.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

The 18-year-old has actually already featured for the Reds once so far this term, as he started in the League Cup defeat against Aston Villa in December, but to see him share the training field with the Reds' stars before such an important match is still surprising. It is a testament to what Klopp thinks of the teenager by rewarding him with this recognition.

Surprisingly, Longstaff has no relation to Newcastle duo Matty and Sean despite have played for the north-east outfit as a youngster. He was with the Toon until he was 13 before he made the switch to Merseyside in 2013.

This season, he has played in a number of positions for the club's youth sides, but it is at centre-forward where he has particularly excelled despite being named by Transfermarkt as a left winger - he has four goals and one assist in six appearances in that position.

There have been plenty of plaudits for the youngster as well. In 2016, when Longstaff scored a hat-trick for England's U16s against Brazil's equivalent in Rio de Janeiro, one coach said he reminded him of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil. It is also not the first time he has trained with the seniors either - he was also called up during the 2016/17 campaign when Klopp was short of numbers prior to a trip to West Brom.

With Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott having featured heavily in the cup competitions so far this campaign, Longstaff could be another to appear regularly in the future. This training session is hopefully just the start.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to link with "Lallana replacement".
