What a difference a year has made for Daniel Sturridge.
This time last year he was playing second fiddle to Fernando Torres at Stamford Bridge, looking a long way off an England call up.
But since his January switch to Liverpool, he has almost looked unplayable, scoring 15 Premier League goals in 20 appearances.
If you wanted confirmation of how far Sturridge has come, then check out this video from last night’s Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
The former Manchester United man – famous for his hatred of Liverpool – and England coach, suggested Brendan Rodgers would be wise to rest the in form striker for the weekend visit of Crystal Palace… to ensure he is fit for England’s World Cup qualifiers!
Sturridge missed the previous two England matches with a thigh strain, and harshly came under fire from those claiming he had put club over country.
Sturridge had in fact said little more than that if he played well for his club, England selection would take care of itself.
But Roy Hodgson’s men looked as though they missed him in Ukraine certainly, as they struggled to a dull goalless draw.
And if Gary Neville is using his punditry duties as a tool to say he wants you fit for England, the feeling is Sturridge must be doing something right!
