Liverpool fans on Twitter have identified Xabi Alonso as a potential candidate to become manager of their club in the future.

Reds supporters hold the Spaniard in high esteem due to his performances with the club in the 2000s.

Alonso was a part of the historic 2005 squad which won the Champions League, and he even scored in the famous Istanbul final against AC Milan.

The 37-year-old is currently honing his managerial skills in his home country managing Real Sociedad’s B team.

With Frank Lampard looking increasingly likely to be appointed as Chelsea boss this week, Liverpool supporters were asked by fan account Empire of the Kop on Twitter to name which former player they would like to see take charge at Anfield, and the response was overwhelmingly in favour for Alonso to become manager.

One fan stated that they wanted to see Alonso pair up with Gerrard, while others said that he would be a better candidate for the role than the former England captain.
