Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted that Liverpool will defeat Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday in a 3-1 triumph.
The late kickoff will be a major test for both Liverpool and Arsenal when they go head to head.
The Reds are unbeaten after 10 games in the Premier League, while the Gunners have not lost any of their last 12 matches in all competitions.
In fact, Unai Emery’s side have won 11 of them, but Merson believes that luck has played a big role.
While giving his weekend predictions for Sky Sports, the pundit stated that he expects Liverpool to come out victorious, and he praised Jurgen Klopp’s defence in the process.
“I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win. I think this is the day Arsenal show some big cracks. People will say: ‘Oh Arsenal will score goals…’ but Liverpool’s defence has been superb. I watched Arsenal win 11 games on the trot, and they could have easily lost four of them, let alone drawn them.”
Last season it was all about the Reds’ dynamic front three – Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
The trio were devastating on the counter-attack, but so far in the 2018-19 campaign, they have struggled to click collectively.
Instead, Liverpool’s defence has been solid, which is in stark contrast to previous seasons in which the back line constantly leaked goals.
Virgil van Dijk has been pivotal in improving the defence since his January switch from Southampton.
Not only does the back four have more strength and organisation, Liverpool have a world-class goalkeeper in Alisson, who signed from Roma in the summer.
As Merson mentioned, Arsenal will struggle to run ragged against a defence of the Reds’ quality, which is not something anyone would expect to say a few seasons ago.
