Far from the injury-stricken selections during the start of his Anfield tenure, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp found himself privy to an embarrassment of riches up front ahead of today’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
Indeed, Daniel Sturridge netted twice upon his full return from injury against Southampton in midweek, whilst Belgium international Divock Origi went one better and bagged a hat-trick their 6-1 Capital One Cup romping.
Meanwhile, versatile forward Roberto Firmino proved a real handful during the Reds’ 4-1 win over Manchester City last weekend and Christan Benteke’s return of four goals in eight Premier League starts is nothing to be sniffed at for a big man.
It was Klopp’s toughest decision to make ahead of the visit to St. James’ Park – but is already proving to be potentially the wrong one. The Reds gaffer elected to start Benteke and around twenty minutes in, the beastly Belgian produced one of the worst misses of the season so far.
Some sloppy defending at a Liverpool corner saw the ball bounce up two or three yards from the goal line. All it needed was a delicate touch, but Benteke somehow blazed the ball over the bar.
Reds fans on Twitter were not impressed. Here are some of their best reactions:
Did Benteke just miss an open goal?

HOW DID BENTEKE MISS FROM 2 YARDS?? I'm sorry but you HAVE TO score those, Sturridge would have done so!
