Napoli new boy wants Liverpool ace to join him

Liverpool's Jose Reina

Napoli loanee Pepe Reina has welcomed talk of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel joining him in Serie A this summer, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Reds centre back has been linked with a move to Italy after struggling for form at Anfield last season.

Kolo Toure has joined Liverpool and so more competition for places will only hamper Skrtel’s playing time this season, along with no European football to dabble in.

Reina has criticised Liverpool over how they handled his loan deal following the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland earlier in the summer.

Napoli have some cash left over from the sale of Edinson Cavani to PSG despite big money signings including Gonzalo Higuain and so are now looking to strengthen their defence with Skrtel the main man on their wish list.

“I don’t know what Napoli are looking for but I can say Martin Skrtel is a good player,” said Reina.

“But he is a Liverpool player. His qualities would be great for any team and he is a great player.

“I respect Liverpool, Martin Skrtel and all of the Napoli players, so I can’t say anything more about this.”
